Hello and welcome back to my weekly thoughts!


Today I want to talk about emotions, or more specifically, when you have a hard time controlling them!



I'm sure we've all been there before, maybe you're incredibly stressed out about work and you can't get a good night's rest, maybe you've caught feelings for someone and they won't let go of you, or maybe you're just in a slump and can't seem to shake the feeling.


Emotions are funny things, they make life so interesting and varied, and often unpredictable as well.

But sometimes your emotions start to rule you, and that a good sign that you need to take a step back and look at things from a different point of view for a few moments.

Usually, doing this will give you a clearer perspective of the situation, since emotions tend to accentuate your experiences and make things seem more major than they actually are.


I think it's an important skill to be able to recognize these times when your emotions have gotten the better of you, and to have fallback plans in place before it happens.

Whenever I'm feeling a little bit too much of a particular emotion one of my strategies is to identify what's making me feel so strongly, and then distance myself from that for a time, sometimes indefinitely if needed.

Another thing I like to do is break everything down, every movement, choice, decision, etc. and think incredibly methodically and as rational as possible.


Sometimes none of these strategies are attainable at the given time however, which means sometimes you just have to tough it out, find someone to talk to if you can, and look for the light at the end of the tunnel.

In the end, you're going to have to let these emotions pass through you, or risk burying them in your subconscious forever, so please be kind to yourself and take a moment for just you if possible, on occasion even the smallest amount of time can be incredibly impactful.

You remind me of the "litany against fear" from the book Dune. Fear being a very intense emotion that can overwhelm one. "I must not fear.Fear is the mind-killer.Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.I will face my fear.I will permit it to pass over me and through me.And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path.Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
