Individuality

Hello and welcome back to my weekly thoughts!

Today I want to talk about the feeling of individuality, and how it can be affected by outside factors.

Who am I? On a personal, individual level.

It's easy to lose that kind of understanding with yourself, sometimes I start seeing myself as a collection of ideas other people have of me, their opinions and expectations, it can be an obsession. I think the difficulty in this battle lies with reclaiming your individuality without abolishing friendship.

For people like myself, we tend to enjoy making others happy, and the ones who we want happy the most is our friends, and so slowly without realizing it, pleasing them can become an obsession.

This is when remembering yourself is important, asking what do I want? Where am I trying to go? Taking a step back and trying to see the big picture, and also appreciating your own being.

Like everything this must be done in moderation though, it's easy to bounce back from a negative mindset and go too far in the other direction, in fact I'd say it's likely to happen. I've found these patterns can lead to a cycle of anger and blame, feeling cheated by the ones you love because of mental warfare you waged on yourself.

It is amazing how complicated a mind can be, but if we take things slow and remember to keep ourselves, the very idea of us, intact, then I believe things can begin to flow smoothly once more.

As always, thanks for reading, and have a beautiful week!
