Momentum

Hello and welcome back to my weekly thoughts!
Today I want to talk about momentum
When I say momentum I don't mean in the physics context, though that kind of momentum is pretty cool too, no I don't mean it in a physical way at all, more so I'm talking about the state of mind. It's a concept I've recently begun to appreciate, though I think I've used it before in the past.
The idea is basically taking the quickest route to a task once you've decided to do it, then moving onto the next thing on your agenda with minimal pauses. This could be anything from doing work to waking up in the morning, and it's something that proves particularly useful to me as I am incredibly distractible.
And I was never aware of how I was sabotaging myself even at the beginning of the day, after I finished getting up I would mess around with small things and instantly lose focus for the day, completely killing my momentum.
I think momentum is a really good word for this idea because it gets easier and more natural after the initial push, similar to real momentum physics. I actually found myself being a lot more productive when I was able to successfully maintain my momentum for the day, and I was acting with a much clearer mind to boot.
Of course you do have to take breaks at some point, no one can work the whole day with no rest, and if they can I certainly think they shouldn't have to. To be honest, I'm still working on how to keep momentum going through breaks, obviously you'll have to slow down and perhaps even come to a complete halt, but maybe there's a way to make sure you can get back up easily afterwards? I'll have to think about it.
Either way, I think this has the possibility of being an extremely effective weapon against distractibility, depending on the person and the task, I find it's most effective when applied to tasks with tangible end destinations, for me that's something like reading through school material or running errands. Likewise this becomes less effective when the task has no concrete end, this would be any task that's subjective like art or music, it is by no means impossible to use in those situations, you just have to be aware of the point you will stop at.
That's all this week, thanks for reading, have a great day!
