My Roots

Hello and welcome back to my weekly thoughts!
This week I wanted to talk about my experience returning to something from my past.
For the song I made this week, I used the software that first got me into making electronic music, and it was a really interesting experience.
For those curious, I currently use Ableton Live 11 Suite, and the software I started with was the free version of SoundTrap, so very different toolkits we're looking at already.
I often listen to my old works and enjoy how they sound, and then I fear I won't be able to create something as good today.
Part of this fear has been founded in the idea that I was better with my original software, though it offered much less, than I am with my current software, which has more options.
For a while I wasn't sure if I was ever going to be as comfortable with Ableton, but after this week I think I've disproven that.
Now I will admit I was in a rush and I made this song in a few hours so it wasn't going to be the highest quality either way, but I think even if I had more time, using SoundTrap was going to yield a less quality product.
There were a lot of times when I'd want to do something but I'd be limited by the software, and times when I just generally had less options than I'd like.
It was comforting in a strange way, to me it was a sign that I've grown into my new shoes, that I've adapted, and it was a good way to close that chapter of my career.
A lot of what I loved about SoundTrap was smothered in layers of nostalgia, and only after using it once more have I been able to understand that clearly.
I'm glad it got me into electronically creating music, and I still do enjoy the way some of its instruments sound, but I can say with certainty that I've now grown enough to take advantage of more complicated programs.
Thanks for reading and have a wonderful week! :)
