Hello and welcome back to my weekly thoughts!
Today I want to talk about sewing!
More specifically, a review of my short term enjoyment, that will hopefully lead into an exciting new skill!
Recently, I decided I wanted to learn a new skill, I've had some extra time on my hands and there's something fulfilling about learning.
I've always wanted to sew or knit, I imagined it to be very relaxing to just sit down sometimes and sew for a while, so I settled on sewing as my new skill.
It's been really fun so far, you don't need to know very much to make your first stitches, and as long as you don't care about stuff looking pretty, you can actually make a lot of things when you start, depending on what kind of materials you have.
It also takes a lot more focus than I first expected, getting clean even stitches is very difficult and something I still haven't mastered to any capacity yet.
I'm in it for the long run though, so thoroughly understanding the basics is something I'm willing to put effort into.
That being said, you can get by with messy stitches just fine if you don't want to practice too much, the barrier to entry on sewing is quite low.
Sewing can also be very affordable if you need it to be.
It probably didn't cost more than 20 dollars for me to get some thread, needles, and plenty of fabric, all of which I bought several months ago and haven't needed to refresh yet.
It can also be pricy if you want more elegant tools or material, a sewing machine being an obvious example of this, but personally I find hand sewing very enjoyable and I feel no need for a machine to help me out.
I'm enjoying my journey so far, but it doesn't hurt to look into the future.
One of my goals right now is upgrading my set up a little bit and getting into embroidery, stitching fabric together is fun and all, but I like the artistic possibilities of embroidery.
That being said, I'm in no rush, I feel I'll be learning for a very long time so I should take my time and appreciate it.
Thanks for reading my thoughts today, have a wonderful week!
